OUR MISSION.

Fighting to FIX OUR DEMOCRACY through the POWER of OUR VOTES!

Democracy supposedly belongs to the people.  But it has never really worked for most of us.

  • It should fulfill Lincoln’s definition: ‘Government of the people, by the people, for the people.’
Our reality:  ‘Government over the people, by political powerbrokers, for their corporate sponsors, for their wealthy patrons, and for their own political or personal interests.’

  • Changing parties or leaders isn’t a solution—because the political actors aren’t the main problem.

  • The real problem is our so-called democratic system—it gives too much power to the parties & leaders (especially the PM) — and too little power to the voters & their elected representatives.

  • Top-down centralized power is undemocratic—and must be reversed to Fix Our Democracy.

  • We the people must Fix Our Democracy—to fulfill the unfulfilled promise of a true democracy!

Fix Our Democracy is a non-partisan citizens’ initiative calling on all Canadians—voters, candidates & parties—to make their pledge to Fix Our Democracy

  • By strategically using the power of our votes, we can elect a majority of MPs pledged to enact the democratic reforms required to Fix Our Democracy—by changing the balance of power—to give more power to voters & their elected representatives, and less power to the parties & the PM.

The power of our vote—the true source of all democratic power—also gives us the power to not give our vote to any candidate or party that’s unwilling to publicly pledge to Fix Our Democracy.

  • Why does ‘Our Democracy’ need to be fixed?
Because it isn’t working for us—‘We the People’. Lincoln’s definition of democracy as ‘government of the people, by the people and for the people’ has become ‘government over the people, by the political power-brokers, for themselves and their wealthy friends and sponsors’. As a result, the rich are getting richer, the people are getting poorer and less secure, and the politicians are well-rewarded for selling us out.
  • How has ‘Our Democracy’ become so corrupt?
Politicians need funding for election campaigns. Political parties are formed to develop political platforms and run election campaigns. Wealthy individuals and corporations provide the funding for party operations and campaigns. Major donors hire lobbyists to seek favours from governments and officials. Most Government decisions are made in secret by the Cabinet—dominated by the PM, advised by the PMO and senior bureaucrats. Elected representatives are controlled by party leadership—most serving as glorified (but expensive) ‘rubber stamps’
  • How is it that ‘We the People’ have lost control of ‘Our Democracy’?
The People have never been in control of so-called Democracy—and were never intended to. The objective of elections isn’t to produce Democracy—but merely to obtain the consent of the People to being governed by the declared winners. Elections allow the People to change government peacefully—without a revolution. Under Canada’s colonial form of fake democracy (i.e. the ‘Westminster’ system with its ‘First Past The Post’ electoral system), the People do not even have the right to vote for ‘their’ Government. Rather, the Government is formed according the balance of power in Parliament which, under FPTP, is invariably a distortion of the ‘will of the People’ as expressed through the popular vote. Sometimes (as in 2019) this even produces a ‘winner’ with fewer votes than the Official Opposition. The parties and politicians have never explained the systemic frauds embedded in our forms of fake democracy and unfair elections. Moreover, the parties, politicians and sponsors strive to preserve their derived benefits from this defective system
  • What are the major flaws in ‘Our Democracy’?
The parties and leaders have too much power—especially the PM and PMO. The voters and their elected representatives have too little power.
  • What can ‘We the People’ do to remedy the major flaws in ‘Our Democracy’?
‘We the People’ must become organized in a campaign to Fix Our Democracy—through the Power of Our Votes! ‘We the People’ each have the limited power of our own individual vote—but until now we have not recognized the far greater power we can collectively exert by organizing in our commitment to Fix Our Democracy! Our demands are simple: To constrain the power of political parties and leaders—especially the PM and PMO. To ensure that elected representatives have the political freedom and obligation to serve the interests of their constituents above those of their parties. To empower citizens to have a vote for their Government—and to ensure that every vote in the legislature must have the support of a majority of voters—through Citizen’s Vote Empowerment.
  • What is the campaign plan to Fix Our Democracy—through the Power of Our Votes?
Voters pledge to vote only for a candidate and party that have publicly pledged to Fix Our Democracy! Candidates declare their commitment (or opposition) to Fix Our Democracy! Party Leaders declare their commitment (or opposition) to Fix Our Democracy!
  • How can we conduct the campaign plan to Fix Our Democracy?
The website will publicize the campaign, calling upon voters to take the pledge and spread the word to their friends and family etc. The campaign will reach out to the parties, calling upon their Leaders to take the pledge and commit their party to working across party lines to refine and implement the plan to Fix Our Democracy. Once the candidate list is announced by Elections Canada, the website will record the pledging status of each candidate and the number of pledged voters in each riding. The campaign will also invite donations to fund the campaign plan to Fix Our Democracy, and to issue news reports on a daily or weekly basis.
  • Who will transform this political action campaign from vision to reality?
It’s all up to us—to all of us—if we want to Fix Our Democracy! Hopefully this campaign will attract support from all sources—especially highschools, media, and international attention! Let’s raise Canada’s profile as the grass-roots champion of Democracy!
